Since 1999 Jesuit Refugee Service/USA has worked in Ouanaminthe, Haiti. After the earthquake, JRS/USA provided emergency relief: food, shelter, and medicine. In seven IDP camps around Port-au-Prince, we offered psychosocial services and pastoral support to residents. In four camps, JRS/USA established camp coordination committees to give Haitians a stake in planning and decision making. In border towns that witnessed an influx of displaced people, we launched education, water, and human rights protection projects. Schools were built in Anse-a-Petri, Fond Parisien, and Thiotte. Los Cacaos has a water system that supplies the people with clean water. We monitored human trafficking and abuses of Haitians crossing the border at Elias Pina, Jimani, and Pedernales.
