American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) has been working in Haiti for 24 years and is legally registered in Haiti. AFSC past work focused on agricultural production and rural small farmer’s self-organization. After the earthquake of January 12, 2010, AFSC provided emergency relief through two international NGOs (HEKS and Handicap International USA). From August 2010 to September 2011, AFSC implemented two pilot projects in partnership with two local organizations (COSALUP in Leogane and IDEJEN in Martissant). The lessons learned related to CBO’s capacity building; citizenship mobilization; youth peaceful coexistence and job training, were the basis to design a new project which will support St. Charles de Borromme School in La Plaine, Croix des Bouquets beginning in December 2011.
